Sliding Scale

You will have access to view all photos before deciding if you’d like to purchase the high-resolution digital files. There is no cost to view the photos, but I kindly ask that you don’t steal the images by taking screenshots. I offer sliding scale payment options for the families of school programs. My suggested rate for the digital photos is $80-$120 per student. There will be 3 tiers: $80, $100, $120. Please read below to learn more about which tier is best for your family

Why sliding scale?

I know we’re in Silicon Valley and that a lot of people have a lot of money, but that doesn’t mean everyone has a lot of money and I don’t want to assume that everyone at your school is able to afford a professional photographer. I know what it’s like to be at the various points on a sliding scale. I grew up in an apartment in Menlo Park; my mom raised us without financial support from my dad by working 3 jobs. I am now a financially stable adult who has the great privilege to create my art and raise my two sons in this same area. So I get it.

Please consider paying less on the scale if you:

  • have significant debt

  • have medical expenses not covered by insurance

  • are eligible for public assistance

  • have immigration-related expenses

  • are an elder with limited financial support

  • are an unpaid community organizer

  • are a returning citizen who has been denied work due to incarceration history

  • experience discrimination in hiring or pay level

  • are descended from enslaved people or Native American Indians (I recognize that much of my privilege has come at the expense of these communities)

Please consider paying more on the scale if you:

  • own the home you live in

  • have investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money

  • travel for recreation

  • have access to family money and resources in times of need

  • work part time or are unemployed by choice, including unemployment due to full-time school in a degree-earning program

  • have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education (or gender and racial privilege, class background, etc.) Even if you are not currently exercising your earning power, I ask you to recognize this as a choice.

Please pay more if you can and less if you can’t. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. When you pay more, please know that you are helping others access my photography services. When you pay in the middle, please know that you are helping the cover costs of running my business. And when you pay less, please know that you are letting your community hold & support you. All of these are wonderful and acceptable ways of participating. Please feel totally comfortable choosing what feels right for you.

As a social justice advocate, I want to do what I can to bring more opportunity to all people. And, personally speaking, anything that broadens the scope of people that I get to know makes my life exponentially better! At the heart of it, my work is about building a community where everyone is supported and no one is left out.

Thank you again for your interest and consideration. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions.
