You Had Me at Hello

Please excuse the über-dumb title, but there aren't better words to describe my feelings. You're probably thinking that I'm going to write a post about this cherry pie. It's a logical assumption, but you're wrong. I'm writing about the magic of the 50mm lens. I borrowed my friend Maria's lens, put it on my D50, and turned to my right. The cherry pie was glowing and it was the perfect first subject. I used to think a 50mm was a pain in the you-know-what, but I didn't realize the power that IS a 1.8 aperture. This is what gives you the shallow (and beautiful) depth of field. Focus is precise and everything else in the frame is knocked out of the park! Get your own here and fall in love with photography all over again.

How I Spent Christmas Eve

Armed with a 20 gauge shotgun, some shells, and a few beers, we trekked out to Ron's house on Christmas Eve for the first annual mistletoe shoot. Not my usual order of business, but it sounded like too much fun to pass up. It's been many years since I've shot a gun and it's way louder than I remember. But then again, I'm pretty sure I had official ear protectors on. Paper towels were all we had on hand, so I stuffed them in my ears, and away we went. It was so fun and I'm proud to report that I shot out a huge branch (bundle?) of mistletoe. Good times, for sure. Thanks to Maria Camillo for the photos of me.

City Sage

I'm super thrilled to be featured today on Anne Sage's blog, City Sage! She's an SF local, who oozes style, pep, and class! Her blog was just named one of the fifty top design blogs in the world (world!!) by the Times Online in the UK! Go Anne! If you're new to my world, a big hello & welcome! I hope you'll enjoy your stay.

Big Birthday Boy

We recently had a great birthday celebration! Full of friends, family, good food, and too many gifts. We gave the young'un banana muffins with cream cheese icing. At first he wasn't a big fan, but once he actually tried it, he was hooked. We gave him a red piano and blocks. Other top gifts included a Radio Flyer wagon with wood slats and a book called It's Useful to Have a Duck/It's Useful to Have a Boy (accordion book with the sweet story on both sides) by Isol.
